Welcome …

to Ashburton, and to skiing the 2014 Oz-Kiwi Challenge at Lake Hood. Here’s some more info on what’s planned …

Lake Hood’s a purpose built recreational lake 6k southeast of Ashburton... Through Tinwald, then left on to Grahams road and Stranges road. We have an adjoining Tournament Water Ski Lane on the sheltered river side of the lake.


Tuesday 21 Australian team has flights to Christchurch, brief tour through earthquake recovery zone Ashburton is an hour south of Christchurch by car Motel tea or Takeaways... Indian, KFC, McD, BK, Chinese

Wednesday 22 Training for both NZ and Oz teams, Robbies Bar & Bistro family dining, or motel tea

Thursday 23 Training for both NZ and Oz teams, 2 Nautique 200’s - Slalom and Jump training on the Tournament Site - Tricks on the main lake (is closed for Thursday training) Officials meeting, and skiers briefing Onsite informalities and evening meal New Caps, and Teams “Off-water Familiarization”

Friday 24 Competition begins Opening Ceremony, meal at the Clubhouse Marquee Formal team welcome, speeches, photos, anthems Flag raising, Teams in uniform please

Saturday 25 Competition Lakehouse Restaurant, Lake Hood Buffet meal and skiers entertainment

Sunday 26 Competition Town Night or motel tea Robbies Bar and Bistro, near motels. Alternatively Speights, or Braided Rivers up town This booking can be taken once skiers are on site

Monday 27 Competition ends Prize Giving Dinner And pack up Hotel Ashburton, near motels Buffet meal, and dignitaries invited for medals

1-2 Events $170
Training $250/hr

Both teams have 30 minutes per skier allocated ($125 each) split over Wednesday / Thursday.
We have endeavored to give every skier as much time on the water as possible close to the tourney,
However, should you prefer less please let your team manager know, so they may reallocate time.
Entry fees, training and meals to be prebooked, so training schedules, and catering can be arranged.
All to be paid in a lump sum per team prior. Details to follow.

We will prebook and pay meals on four nights, and the other three nights venues are your choice.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday night dinners will be at the Lake, at the completion of the days skiing.
We will endeavor to wrap these nights up early, with skiers on the water the next morning.


We have a block booking at Coronation Park, East St Ashburton for Kiwis’ with a range of
motels, tourist flats, and powered sites (for anyone wishing to hire a campervan)
Adjacent motel units are booked for the Australian Team.
All accommodation is within 15 minutes of the Tournament Water Ski Site.
We have a hold on bookings at present, but these all need to be confirmed asap please
(they will open up to other bookings by the end of November)
